Hope

Toward the end of last year, when I was putting together packaging for the t-shirts in our shop, I wanted to use newspapers for filling but I ended up deciding not to use them. Even more unfortunate, I ordered a larger amount than I needed but I ended up keeping them because I knew I could make it into something, or at least try. 

These last couple months I’ve been working with soft pastels for the first time and thought the newspapers would be a great way to catch the dust from them. While racking my brain on what I could create next with the pastels, I realized all of these really dark headlines on the pages. At the end of last year, the world had been in both a state of crisis and on the heels of change with the new year closing in. 

Something I try to remember to tell myself is that you can always find hope in the middle of a crisis. It is important to remember to hope even in the face of our fears, whatever those fears may be. To become a person who holds out for the good to come and never to the point where we blind ourselves to our reality. Hope is always there, at the center of things. You just have to look for it.
